Pumphrey (left) will join from Belfast-based Deramore Property Group, whose London office he has been running for 13 years.

Before joining Deramore he spent 11 years with property services firms Weatherall Green & Smith — now part of BNP Paribas — and NB Real Estate’s forerunner, Nelson Bakewell. Among the institutional property investors he advised were Prupim, Legal & General, Henderson Global Investors’ forerunner AMP, Argyll Property Asset Managers and ICI Pension Fund.

He will chair Mayfair Capital’s internal investment committee and act as the main interface with the UK property market for buying, selling and selecting stocks for the funds and advisory mandates managed by the firm. He will also work closely with Catherine Candler, director of asset management.

“This senior appointment confirms our ambitions to take the business to a new level,” said Mayfair’s fund director and co-founder, James Thornton.

Mayfair Capital was formed in June 2002 as an independent property fund management business designed to serve charities, private investors and pension funds. It manages £180m in four pooled funds and has a further £30m of advisory mandates.

Its flagship fund, the Property Income Trust for Charities (PITCH), was the best-performing fund in the Association of Real Estate Funds All UK Balanced Pooled Funds Index last year. PITCH returned 9.2% in 2009, compared with the index return of -1.8%.
